I got bit by the travel bug early on. I was 10 years old on my first international trip to Ireland and it made an impression. And ever since, I’ve made a point to see as much of the world as possible. While there’s nothing wrong with lounging on a tropical beach with beautiful sand and clear blue water for your honeymoon (I’ll tell you one of my favorite beaches below), I thought I’d share a handful of places I’ve been to on a few different continents that offer a bit of global adventure as you celebrate your newlywed status.
1. Harbour Island, Bahamas
The pink sand beaches here are unlike any others I’ve seen. The powdery perfect sand is just one of the reasons why I love the car-free island. The conch salad and fritters are my favorite local dishes, so be sure to give those a try. And one of my go-to spots to kick back and relax is Dunmore Beach.
2. Amalfi Coast, Italy
This part of Italy might be having a moment right now, and it’s well-deserved. I love the Cinque Terre region and parts of the Northern Italy coastline. Start at Cinque Terre for some hiking and exploration, and then venture north to Portofino where you can check in to the Belmond Hotel Splendido for some luxurious rest and relaxation. Then cross the border over to France and pop over to Monaco to party, because after all, you’ve got something to celebrate.
3. Cape Town, South Africa
While visiting the southern-most part of Africa, mix it up by enjoying wine tasting and then heading out for a bit of adventure on a safari (I did mine at Shamwari). Rest your head at Cape Grace for a luxurious spot right on the water.
4. Queenstown, New Zealand
I actually lived on the South Island of New Zealand for about a year after college. As a sister city to Aspen, it offers just as much outdoor fun as Colorado. Consider hiking, rafting, heli fishing, and even bungee jumping. And if you’re seeking a majestic landscape, put the Franz and Fox Glaciers at the top of your list.
5. Atacama Desert, Chile
If eco-chic is what you crave, look no further than Tierra Atacama. Enjoy the views of the volcano or have your body wrapped in its mud at the luxe spa.
